从中国的漕运命脉到埃及的法老工程，从沟通两大洋的海运咽喉到承载文化遗产的活的记忆，运河始终是人类最伟大的智慧结晶之一。它们不仅是运输物资的经济动脉，更是促进文明互鉴的文化桥梁、维护和平合作的友谊纽带。然而，在全球化浪潮中，许多运河面临着保护、利用与传承的多重挑战。它们的历史价值、生态意义与国际合作潜力，更需要跨学科、跨地域的深度探讨。如何让运河的故事更立体？如何让运河的价值被更多人看见？这是全球运河研究者、管理者、实践者共同的全球性议题。
为回应这一时代命题，世界运河学会（World Canal Society）于2025年1月28日正式在中国澳门特别行政区完成注册。作为一家非政府、非营利性国际组织，学会以“搭建国际学术平台、促进区域合作交流、推动运河可持续发展”为使命，致力于成为全球运河领域的思想库、朋友圈与行动派。
当前，学会已集聚境内外多个学术单位支持：北京大学担任主席团单位，以深厚的学术积淀为学会注入研究力量；浙江外国语学院作为理事长单位，依托多语种优势与跨文化研究专长，架起中外沟通的桥梁；澳门城市大学担任监事长单位，以丰富的实践经验与多元文化视野，为学会提供包容开放的广阔视角。
今天，我们站在新的起点，亟需像您这样深耕运河研究、热爱运河事业的同路人，共同为学会注入鲜活的学术生命力与社会影响力。我们诚挚邀请您加入世界运河学会，与我们并肩：

Registration Channel for the World Canal Society (Macau) Officially Launched
From the vital water transport artery of ancient China to the pharaonic projects of Egypt, from critical maritime chokepoints connecting two oceans to living repositories of cultural heritage, canals have always stood as one of humanity’s greatest intellectual achievements. They serve not only as economic arteries for material transportation but also as cultural bridges fostering mutual learning among civilizations and bonds of friendship for peace and cooperation. Yet, amid the tide of globalization, many canals now face multiple challenges in preservation, utilization, and inheritance. Their historical value, ecological significance, and potential for international collaboration demand in-depth interdisciplinary and cross-regional exploration. How can we make the stories of canals richer? How can we ensure their value is seen by more people? These are global issues shared by researchers, managers, and practitioners of canals worldwide.
To address this pressing challenge of our era, the World Canal Society (WCS) was officially registered in the Macao Special Administrative Region of China on January 28th, 2025. As a non-governmental, non-profit international organization, WCS mission is to build an international academic platform, promote regional cooperation and exchanges, and advance the sustainable development of canals. It strives to become an important force in the global canal community.
Currently, WCS has gathered support from multiple academic institutions both at home and abroad: Peking University serves as the presidium member unit, infusing the Society with profound academic research capabilities; Zhejiang International Studies University, as the council chair unit, leverages its strengths in multilingualism and cross-cultural studies to bridge communication between China and the world; City University of Macau, as the supervisor chair unit, provides an inclusive and global perspective through its rich practical experience and multicultural insights.
Standing at this new starting point, we urgently need like-minded peers—those deeply engaged in canal research and passionate about canal undertakings—to join us in infusing fresh academic vitality and social influence into WCS. We sincerely invite you to become a member and collaborate with us to:
✅ Participate in international canal academic symposia and regional cooperation forums, sharing cutting-edge research and practical experiences;
✅ Collaborate with universities, institutions, and enterprises to advance innovative projects such as the protection of canal cultural heritage and the integrated development of cultural tourism worldwide;
✅ Build transnational and interdisciplinary exchange networks to amplify the voice of canals, ensuring it reaches farther and louder.
WCS is scheduled to hold its First General Membership Meeting at Zhejiang International Studies University on Late October, 2025. The event will feature keynote speeches, roundtable dialogues, and achievement releases. We cordially invite you to attend, share your insights, and provide critical momentum for the Society’s growth and the advancement of canal-related causes.
